Fashion Revolution: it’s time to say stop!

The week dedicated to the Fashion Revolution just ended. Fashion Revolution is a movement that C. Tessile proudly takes part in.

The Fashion Revolution began after the catastrophic Rana Plaza incident in 2013, in Bangladesh, in which 1133 people lost their lives and more than 2,500 were seriously injured. Most were women and were working on making our clothes and garments. Workers in a textile company that manufactured without protections for the major Western brands. The workplace was not safe and the workers were not protected.

This event provoked public indignation. It is estimated that even if not directly involved, the fashion houses were conniving with the conditions under which their goods were produced. The media resonance of this tragedy gave the beginning to campaigns against the exploitation of working conditions in the fashion world and pushed NGOs and unions to fight for workers’ rights.

That was the birth of Fashion Revolution, the movement that aims to create a new sustainable consciousness in the fashion world, of which we are proudly a part.

Carry Somers, co-founder of Fashion Revolution states: “When everything in the fashion industry is focused on profit, human rights, environment and workers’ rights are lost. We need to stop this: we decided to mobilize people around the world. Find out. Do something. Buying is the last click in the long journey that involves thousands of people: the invisible workforce behind the clothes we wear. We no longer know who are the people who make the clothes, it’s easy to pretend because we don’t see, and as a result is that millions of people are suffering and even dying.”
